TRIUMPH!

I marvel at that triumph of project management over sport – the NFL… an act only surpassed by the triumph of marketing over sport, the Superbowl… I marvel at how something so tiresome can captivate so many… So while America was tucking into hot-dogs and popcorn, their eyes tuned into StupidBowl advertising something incredible was happening on the ocean.

OK, I’ll concede that sailing for the most part is like watching cars rust but you can’t help be in awe of Ellen MacArthur who just set the world record for fastest circumnavigation of the globe. A woman just kicked arse on the seas.

She crossed the finish line at 2229 GMT on Monday, beating the previous mark set by Frenchman Francis Joyon of 72 days, 22 hours, 54 mins and 22 secs.

The Isle of Wight-based yachtswoman completed the 27,000-mile voyage in 71 days and under 13 hours.. BBC

Clearly you’re not a football fan, Andy. This was a good game, two outstanding defenses at work through most of the first half, some tough offense, a miraculous performance by Terrell Owens, and a game the outcomeo f which was in doubt right down to less than a minute remaining, an on-side kick the deciding factor. To hell with the advertising — good sports were on display on Sunday.
